Documentary Theatre - Dokumentartheater (English: Dokumentarge) [Germany]

A general term for the directing method and dramas that developed in Germany in the 1920s. It is also called "documentary theater." It began when director Piscator used documentary equipment such as a film projector to direct Alfons Paquet's (1881-1944) plays The Flag (1924) and Tsunami (1926), and photographs and films were used to emphasize the factuality of the plays. Later, with the development and advancement of audiovisual equipment, this directing method spread beyond left-wing theater that emphasized sociality.

1920年代にドイツで発展した演出方法とそれによるドラマの総称。〈記録演劇〉ともいう。演出家ピスカートルがパケAlfons Paquet(1881‐1944)の《旗》(1924)，《津波》(1926)などの演出にあたって映写機などドキュメンタル機器を用いたのがはじまりで，事実性の強調に写真や映画が利用された。その後オーディオ･ビジュアル機器の開発，発展もともなってこの演出方法は，社会性を重んじる左翼的演劇以外にもひろまった。
