...The art world also reflected this trend, creating new perspectives on painting, such as the pursuit of realism and attention to real life, and works that strongly express the unique mood of the Korean people began to be created. Major artists of this period included Shim Sajeong, Kang Sehwang, Kim Jeong-hee, Jo Hee-ryong, Nam Gye-woo, Kim Su-cheol, and Jeon Gi, as well as painters (artists belonging to the government's painting agency, the Drawing Office), such as Jeong Sun, Kim Du-suk, Choi Bok, Ri In-mun, Kim Hong-do, Kim Deok-shin, Shin Yun-bok, Ri Myong-gi, Heo Wi, and Jang Seung-eop. Compared to the early and middle periods, their works have been handed down in considerable abundance, and from them we can see that they developed a variety of styles, actively incorporating not only the two major trends in Ming and Qing painting, the Northern and Southern schools, but also printmaking and the Yangzhou style of painting, which began to flourish around the Wanli period (1573-1619) at the end of the Ming.

…画壇もこのような風潮を反映して写実探求，現実生活への注目など新しい画観を生みだし，朝鮮民族固有の情調を画面に強く打ちだした作品がつくられるようになった。この期の主要な画家として，士大夫（したいふ）では沈師正（しんしせい），姜世晃（きようせいこう），金正喜，趙熙竜，南啓宇，金秀喆（きんしゆうてつ），田琦（でんき）などがおり，また画員(政府の作画機関である図画署（とがしよ）に所属する画家)では鄭敾（ていぜん），金斗樑（きんとりよう），崔北（さいほく），李寅文（りいんぶん），金弘道，金得臣，申潤福（しんじゆんぷく），李命基，許維，張承業などがいる。彼らの作品は前･中期に比してかなり豊富に伝存し，それらによって彼らが明清絵画の二大潮流である北宗画（ほくしゆうが）と南宗画はもちろんのこと，明末の万暦(1573‐1619)ころから隆盛しはじめた版画や揚州系画風なども積極的に取り入れて，さまざまに画風を発展させたことがわかる。…
