〘Noun〙 An annual plant of the Asteraceae family. It grows in mountains and fields throughout the country. It is 50-100cm tall. It is densely covered with short hairs all over. The leaves are stalked and opposite, and the leaf blade is broadly ovate, 5-10cm long, with irregular sawtooth edges. From September to October, it produces yellow cone-shaped flower heads. The ray florets are small and divide into two or three parts. The fruit is obovate-shaped and oblong, with no pappus. In Chinese medicine, the whole dried plant is called kiren and is used to treat neuralgia, rheumatism, and paralysis. Chinese name: kiren. Mochi rice. Akibokori. Ishimochi. 〘名〙 キク科の一年草。各地の山野に生える。高さ五〇~一〇〇センチメートル。全体に短毛を密布する。葉は柄をもち対生し、葉身は長さ五~一〇センチメートルの広卵形で縁に不規則な鋸歯(きょし)がある。九~一〇月、黄色い頭状花を円錐状につける。舌状花は小さく二~三裂する。果実は倒卵状長楕円形で冠毛がない。漢方では全草を干したものを豨薟(きれん)と呼び、神経痛、リウマチ、中風などに用いる。漢名、豨薟。もちなもみ。あきぼこり。いしもち。《季・秋》※南海寄帰内法伝平安後期点(1050頃)一「倉耳(メナモミ)の根を取る。并に地に入れること二寸なるを截り取る」 〔日本植物名彙(1884)〕
