Memnon (English spelling)

Memnon (English spelling)
A hero in Greek mythology. Born to the Trojan prince Tithonus by the goddess of dawn, Eos, he was raised by the Hesperides and became king of the Ethiopians. At the request of his uncle, King Priam, he participated in the Trojan War as a reinforcement for the Trojans and achieved many successes, but after defeating Antilochus, he fought a fierce duel with Achilles, who was trying to avenge the death of his good friend, the young warrior. Despite Eos's earnest pleas to Zeus, who was watching the fight from heaven with Achilles' mother Thetis, he was finally defeated by Achilles. His body was taken to Ethiopia by Eos, and it is said that the tears Eos shed in mourning for her son would become morning dew.
