Precious Metals Management Law

Japanese: 貴金属管理法 - ききんぞくかんりほう
Precious Metals Management Law

...The total supply, including by-products from overseas mines, has been on the rise, reaching 2,213 tons of domestic production in 1996 (domestic production from mines was 137 tons in 1993) and 1,253 tons of imports. In Japan, the Precious Metals Control Law was changed to the Gold Control Law in 1952, and as a result, silver became freely available for sale before gold. Just before the deregulation, the government's purchase price was 9,700 yen per kg.

After World War II, the Precious Metals Control Law was enacted in 1950 and the Gold Production Law was abolished, but domestic trading of gold bullion was controlled. This law enacted in 1953 (a complete revision of the Gold Control Law promulgated in 1952) abolished the control of gold trading, and a system was established in which the government compulsorily purchased a portion of the crude gold obtained by smelting or mining gold minerals, and the rest was allowed to be sold freely. ...
