…In the 12th century, when the court's painters were actively engaged, officially recognized Buddhist painters also organized their own studios and competed with each other in the construction of temples. Soon, the chief painter of the court's painting studio was appointed to the official position of 'Ayato', and his status improved to the equivalent of the fifth rank.
