Irogahama Beach

...The beaches of Yokohama, Sugitsu, Akasaki, Mariyama, Matsubara, Nago, Tsunemiya, and Kutsu are all crowded with summer bathers. The scenery is beautiful, and the entire area is included in the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park. Sugitsu, near the mouth of the bay, and Irogahama, known for Saigyo's poem and visited by Basho, are particularly famous. Fishing within the bay is sluggish, and the west coast (Nishiura) is home to small-scale fishing such as shrimp casting nets, but the east coast (Higashiura) is all made up of farming villages with their backs to the sea. ...
