Otama [village] - Otama

Japanese: 大玉[村] - おおたま
Otama [village] - Otama
A village in Adachi County, central Fukushima Prefecture. Population 8,339 (1995). Located between Fukushima City and Koriyama City, and south of Nihonmatsu City. Mount Adatara towers in the northwestern edge, and the Adatara River flows east through the center of the village and empties into the Abukuma River. Cultivated land is spread across gentle slopes, and most of the flat land is a purely rural area where rice is grown. In recent years, part-time work has become increasingly common, and diversification of management such as vegetable cultivation and livestock farming is being promoted. Babazakura in Tamai is a giant pale pink higan cherry tree that has been designated a natural monument. At the foot of Mount Adatara is the prefecture-run Citizens' Forest, which includes a campsite, and the village-run accommodation facility Adatara no Sato.
