...It is not eaten because it has many small bones and is tasteless, but it is occasionally used as bait for bonito fishing. It is called kiiwashi in Tokyo, kawaiwashi in Lake Hamana, and dobo in Owase, Mie Prefecture. Other closely related species found along the Japanese coast include Okinawa togorou, mugiiwashi, and silver isoiwashi, all of which are small fish with a body length of around 10 cm.
