This refers to the development of fishing in the Kanto region by Kamigata fishermen in the early modern period, and can be broadly divided into two aspects. The first is that some of the fishing towns in Edo were established as a result of the migration of fishermen from the coast of Osaka Bay. Tsukudajima, which supplied fish and vegetables to the shogunate, is said to have been established after the Tensho era by fishermen from Tsukuda and Owada villages in Nishinari County, Settsu, to which it was transferred, and the fishing town of Fukagawa was also said to have been established around the same time by Settsu fishermen. The second is that, from the early to mid-modern period, Kishu fishermen mainly went out to fish in various parts of the Boso coast with advanced fishing techniques such as makaseami (purse seine) and yattema (set net), and eventually migrated there and played a major role in the development of the Kanto fishing industry.
