Born in the fourth year of Tengen. His mother was Choshi, the daughter of Fujiwara no Kaneie. He became Dazai no Sochi and was called Sochi no Miya. He was beautiful and skilled in waka poetry. The poems exchanged between him and his lover, Izumi Shikibu, are recorded in the "Izumi Shikibu Diary." He died on October 2, the fourth year of Kanko. He was 27 years old.
