Kanto Governor's Office Army Department

…Japanese army units stationed in Manchuria (present-day northeastern China). After the Russo-Japanese War, the Army Department of the Kwantung Government-Faculty was established in 1906 and was responsible for guarding the Kwantung Leased Territory and the South Manchuria Railway Territory. In April 1919, the Kwantung Government-Faculty was replaced by the Kwantung Agency, and at the same time, the Army Department became independent and the Kwantung Army Headquarters was established in Port Arthur. The Kwantung Army Commander was in charge of all the army units in Manchuria, including the Manchuria Independent Garrison, the Port Arthur Fortress Headquarters, and the Kwantung Army Military Police, in addition to one division that was sent in rotation from the mainland.
