Also known as Jihon Soshi Wholesaler. A bookstore that publishes Jihon. Jihon means "books published in Edo." From the mid-Edo period onwards, the publication of illustrated books for entertainment became popular in Edo, unlike in Kyoto and Osaka. These are specifically called Jihon. These include Akahon, Kurohon, Aohon, Kibyō, and Gokan. There were many famous bookstores that published these books, such as Tsuruya Kiemon, Tsutaya Juzaburo, Urokogataya Magobe, Izumiya Ichibei, Murataya Jirobei, and Nishimuraya Yohachi. 地本草紙問屋とも。地本を出版する本屋。地本とは〈江戸で出版された本〉という意。江戸中期以後,江戸の町では京坂とちがって娯楽用の絵入り本の出版が盛んになった。これを特に地本という。赤本,黒本,青本,黄表紙,合巻などである。これらを出版した本屋で,鶴屋喜右衛門,蔦屋重三郎,鱗形屋(うろこがたや)孫兵衛,和泉屋市兵衛,村田屋次郎兵衛,西村屋与八など,有名店が多くある。1853年(嘉永6)には146軒あった。
