A coast made of exposed rocks. It often develops where mountains approach the sea. Sea cliffs, sea caves, wave-cut platforms, and other features are well developed, and the coastline is complex. A coast made of bedrock or large boulders is also called a rocky coast. Rocky coasts with many inlets and outlets often make good harbors and serve as bases for fishing. Examples include the coast of Norway, the coast of Brittany in France, and the Izu Peninsula and Sanriku Coast in Japan.
