Denkan - epilepsy

Chinese playwright. Born in Changsha, Hunan Province. Studied at Tokyo Higher Normal School. After returning to China in 1921, he presided over the Nankoku Film Theatre Company, Nankokusha, and Nankoku Art Academy, and was involved in film, theater activities, and training of theater artists. He played a leading role since the days of the Left Wing Drama Association, and his bold and open-minded home was always filled with visitors, encouraging and uniting people with his spirited discussions. His early representative work is "The Night of Catching a Tiger" (1921). "The Beauty's Journey" (1946), which depicts the lives of three women in Shanghai under Japanese rule, premiered in Wuxi in 1947, directed by Hong Shen. "Guan Hanqing" (1958), which depicts the dignity of a Yuan opera writer who resisted authoritarianism with his pen, premiered in Japan in 1959 (Showa 34) under the direction of Senda Koreya. His Peking opera works include "Xie Yaohuan" and "Legend of the White Snake." He also left behind excellent works of poetry. He was one of the indispensable leaders in the development of new Chinese drama.

中国の劇作家。湖南省長沙県出身。東京高等師範学校に留学。1921年帰国後は南国電影劇社、南国社、南国芸術学院などを主宰し、映画、演劇活動、演劇人養成にあたった。左翼戯劇家連盟時代から指導的役割を担い、豪放磊落(らいらく)な彼の家は来客が絶えず、意気軒昂(けんこう)な議論で人々を激励し団結させた。初期代表作は『獲虎之夜(とらがりのよ)』（1921）。日本統治下の上海(シャンハイ)での3人の女性の生き方を描いた『麗人行(れいじんこう)』（1946）は洪深(こうしん)演出で47年に無錫(むしゃく)で初演。筆で強権に抵抗した元曲作家の尊厳を描いた『関漢卿(かんかんけい)』（1958）は日本では59年（昭和34）千田是也(これや)演出で初演。京劇戯曲には『謝瑤環(しゃようかん)』『白蛇伝(はくじゃでん)』などがある。詩歌にも優れた作品を残している。中国新劇の発展に欠くことのできない指導者の1人であった。
