ひたい ひたひ【額】

〘名〙① 顔面の上部の、毛髪の生えぎわから眉のあたりまでのところ。また、動物の、それに相当する部分。前額。※書紀(720)神代上(兼方本訓)「顱(ヒタヒ)(〈別訓〉かしら)の上に粟生(な)れり。眉の上に(かひこ)(な)れり」※浄瑠璃・伽羅先代萩(1785)六「こちゃ泣はせぬはへと、ひたいを撫て泣顔を、隠す心は」② 額髪(ひたいがみ)のこと。まえがみ。※蜻蛉(974頃)中「わが頭(かしら)をとりおろして、ひたいをわくとみる」③ (蔽髪) 女房の装束の時、頭髪の前につけた飾り。〔十巻本和名抄(934頃)〕※宇津保(970‐999頃)菊の宴「世の中にありがたき御すゑ、ひたひ、へり櫛、釵子、元結、御宮仕のはじめの御調度奉り給ふ」④ 冠・烏帽子(えぼし)などの前額に当たる部分をいう。厚額・薄額・透額などの別がある。※源氏(1001‐14頃)若菜上「かうぶりのひたい少しくつろぎたり」⑤ 物の差し出た部分。岸やがけなどの突き出た所。※枕(10C終)六六「あやふぐさは、岸のひたひに生ふらんも、げにたのもしからず」⑥ 「ひたいつき(額付)」の略。⑦ 琵琶の部分の名。胴の表面(腹板)の一番下の覆手(ふくしゅ)のあたりをいう。がく。〔楽家録(1690)〕⑧ 陰阜(いんぷ)をいう。※雑俳・末摘花(1776‐1801)三「ひたいに有ったらよかろうとさがみいい」
