Kanshido - Kanshido

...A Chinese thinker in the late Ming Dynasty. His given name was Zhidao, his literary name was Dengzhi, and his pen name was Dongming. He was from Taicang Prefecture, Suzhou Prefecture (Taicang County, Jiangsu Province). He was a Jinshi in the 5th year of the Longqing era (1571). He studied under Geng Dingxiang (Tiantai, 1524-96) of the left wing of Wang's school, but he was driven by a sense of crisis that the left wing of Wang's school, including Li Zhi, were destroying human morality, and he harshly criticized them. On the other hand, he also opposed the simple revival of Neo-Confucianism, and debated with Gu Xiancheng and Gao Fanlong of the Donglin Party. He established a grand system that reconciled both schools of thought, placing Buddhist nothingness at its core and firmly maintaining traditional ethical values. ...
