Akanuma

Japanese: 赤沼 - あかぬま

...It belongs to Kitashiobara Village, Yama District. It was formed by the 1888 eruption of Mt. Bandai, which filled a depression with mudflow. Small lakes and marshes, such as Yaroku-numa, Yanagi-numa, Aonuma, Ruri-numa, Benten-numa, Tatsu-numa, Midoro-numa, Akanuma, and Bishamon-numa, are scattered about 3 km east of Lake Hibara. There are also swamps of the same name in the crater lake of Mt. Azuma and a dammed lake near Mt. Nikko Shirane, so it is also called Bandai Goshiki-numa.

...There are many legends about Daidarabocchi's footprints becoming lakes and ponds. It is said that Akanuma in Kozuke Province (Gunma Prefecture) is also a puddle in the shape of Daidarabocchi's footprint when he sat on Mount Akagi. There is also a legend that the lord of Akanuma married the lord of Igaho Swamp, showing the motif of the negotiation between the two water gods.
