Interstitial cells - Kansaibo

Glandular cells found in the testes of vertebrates. In addition to the seminiferous tubules where sperm are formed, the testes also contain blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, nerves, mast cells, and interstitial cells. Interstitial cells are also called Leydig cells, contain lipid granules, have well-developed smooth endoplasmic reticulum, and are the main source of male hormone secretion. A group of cells called interstitial cells also exists in the ovaries of vertebrates. These cells originate from cells that entered the mesenchyme from the peritoneal epithelium during ovarian differentiation, and from cells of the inner theca that surrounds the follicles and remains after the atretic follicles degenerate.

脊椎(せきつい)動物の精巣にある腺(せん)性の細胞。精巣には精子形成の場である細精管のほかに、血管、リンパ管、神経、肥満細胞、および間細胞がある。間細胞はライディッヒ細胞Leydig cellともよばれ、脂質顆粒(かりゅう)を含み、滑面小胞体がよく発達しており、雄性ホルモンは主としてここから分泌される。また、脊椎動物の卵巣にも間細胞とよばれる細胞群が存在する。この細胞は、卵巣が分化してくる際に腹腔(ふくこう)上皮から間充織(かんじゅうしき)に入ってきた細胞と、濾胞(ろほう)の周りを取り巻いていて閉鎖濾胞が退化したあとに残る内莢膜(ないきょうまく)の細胞に由来する。
