Kasumi (Judo) - Kasumi

Japanese: 霞(柔道) - かすみ
Kasumi (Judo) - Kasumi

It is also called ate (atte), atemi (attemi), or atewaza (atte-waza). It is a technique that inflicts pain on the opponent by stabbing with the fist, fingertips, or elbow, striking with the fist or a sword, or kicking with the knee, sole, or heel on the weak points of the human body, such as the top of the head, the pit of the stomach, the temples, the philtrum, the solar plexus, the lower abdomen, the right pelvis, the left pelvis, the testicles, and the knee joints. Nowadays, the focus is on randori (free practice) and winning or losing in matches, and only throwing and pinning techniques are used. Atemi techniques are prohibited because they are considered dangerous, so their use has been neglected.
