Japanese: 観護措置 - かんごそち

A means of preserving the custody of a juvenile for juvenile trials and investigations of suspected juvenile cases (Juvenile Law Articles 17, 43). It is carried out by decision of the family court. For suspected cases, the decision is made at the request of the public prosecutor. There are two methods of custody measures: placing the juvenile under the custody of a family court investigator, or sending the juvenile to a juvenile classification home, which is equivalent to detention for adult suspects. The latter is usually used more often. A custody warrant is required to send a suspected case to a juvenile classification home.

少年審判および少年の被疑事件の捜査のために少年の身柄を保全する手段 (少年法 17，43) 。家庭裁判所の決定により行う。被疑事件については，検察官の請求に基づいて決定する。観護措置の方法としては，家庭裁判所調査官の観護に付する場合と，成人の被疑者の勾留に相当する少年鑑別所へ送致する場合とがある。通常，後者が多く用いられている。被疑事件において少年鑑別所に送致するときは観護令状が必要である。
