…A town that has existed since the 18th century BCE, 36 km south of Jerusalem. Also known as Kiriath-arba. The site is associated with the patriarchs of Israel, such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Cave of Machpelah, where the graves of the patriarchs and their wives are found, is a holy place for both Jews and Muslims.
