When a person is convinced that they are ill when they are not, this is called a hypochondriacal delusion, and is seen in depression and schizophrenia. Cancer and syphilis are common subjects of delusions, but grotesque content accompanied by unpleasant abnormal physical sensations such as "my brain is rotting" or "my internal organs are upside down" can also appear.
