…Local varieties of Kan-aoi include Suzukakan-aoi var. brachypodion F.Maek., which is distributed from central Honshu to Kinki, and Koyakan-aoi var. koyanum (Makino) F.Maek., which is distributed in the Kii Peninsula. The Heterotropa genus is closely related to the Asarum genus, but it is distinguished from the latter, which is mostly summer-green and has separate perianths, by having evergreen leaves, the lower part of the tepals completely fused, and a pleated projection surrounding the inside of the mouth, and is considered a separate genus. It is mainly distributed on the forest floor of warm temperate forests in East Asia, and more than 30 species are known from Honshu to Kyushu, with several endemic species distributed in the Ryukyu Islands. …

…カンアオイの地方的な変種に，本州の中部から近畿に分布するスズカカンアオイvar.brachypodion F.Maek.や，紀伊半島に分布するコウヤカンアオイvar.koyanum (Makino) F.Maek.がある。　カンアオイ属Heterotropaはフタバアオイ属Asarumにごく近縁な植物群であるが，常緑性の葉を有し，花被片の下部が完全に合着し，口縁部内側をひだ状突起がとりまくことで，多くは夏緑性で，花被の離生することのある後者からは区別でき，別属とされる。東アジアの暖温帯林の林床に分布の中心があり，本州から九州にかけて30種以上が知られ，南西諸島にも特有の種が数種，分布している。…
