A type of rabbit. It originates from the Ankara region of Turkey (formerly Angora), where a breed for fur was developed in France and further improved in the UK. It is medium-sized (weighing 2.5kg to 3.5kg), has short ears, and is covered with soft, beautiful fur that reaches 12 to 15 cm. Its fur comes in a variety of colors, including white, gray, black, and brown, but white is preferred for fur. Its fur can be harvested three to four times a year and is used for yarn and textiles. About 90% of the fur is produced in China, and the animal rights group PETA has been campaigning against it since 2013, claiming that the fur is plucked out in a painful way and that the breeding conditions are poor, and has released videos of the production process obtained from 10 farms in China. In response to this situation, major apparel companies such as Calvin Klein, GAP, and H&M have stopped using Angora rabbit fur. In February 2015, Inditex, which operates the apparel chain ZARA, announced that it would stop selling products made with Angora rabbit fur at all 6,400 of its chain stores.

ウサギの一種。原産地はトルコのアンカラ(旧アンゴラ)地方で、フランスで毛用種が作り出されイギリスでさらに改良された。中型(体重2.5キロ～3.5キロ)で耳が短く、全身が12～15センチに達する柔らかく美しい毛で覆われている。毛色は白色、灰色、黒色、褐色と様々だが、白色が毛用として好まれる。毛は年に3～4回採ることができ、毛糸や織物などに用いられる。毛の生産量の約90%は中国産であり、毛をむしり取る苦痛の大きい採毛方法を用い飼育環境も劣悪として、動物愛護団体「PETA」が2013年より反対キャンペーンを行い、中国の農場10カ所で入手した生産工程の動画を公開。こうした現状を受けて、カルバン・クライン、GAP、H&Mなどの大手アパレル企業がアンゴラウサギの毛の使用を中止した。15年2月には、アパレルチェーン「ZARA」などを展開するインディテックスが、傘下のチェーン店全6400店舗でアンゴラウサギの毛を使用した商品の販売中止を発表した。
