A former town in Kurihara County, northern Miyagi Prefecture. The Ichihasama River flows along the northeastern border. The low-lying marshes have been reclaimed since early modern times and are now used for rice paddies. The settlement has developed on the natural levees of the Ichihasama River. In 1990, Kurikoma-Kogen Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen was opened. In April 2005, the town was incorporated as a city by merging with the towns of Tsukidate, Wakayanagi, Kurikoma, Takashimizu, Ichihasama, Semine, Uguisuzawa, Kanari, and Hanayama in Kurihara County. 宮城県北部,栗原郡の旧町。北東境を一迫(いちはさま)川が流れる。低湿地は近世以来干拓が行われ,水田地帯をなす。集落は一迫川の自然堤防上に発達している。1990年東北新幹線くりこま高原駅が開設された。2005年4月栗原郡築館町,若柳町,栗駒町,高清水町,一迫町,瀬峰町,鶯沢町,金成町,花山村と合併し市制,栗原市となる。30.88km2。7524人(2003)。
