…Although he published nearly 20 collections of poems during his lifetime, his most famous works include “Poésies” (1924), “Poèmes” (1948), and “Lights and Darkness” (1954). As a novelist, his originality can be fully appreciated in two works: “Thomas the Speculator” (1923), a story of a man so faithful to his lies that he pretends to be dead when he is about to die, and “Les Enfants Terribles” (1929), which depicts the mysterious beauty of a boy and girl who rush to their death while playing in a dream. As for plays, I would like to mention the Greek tragedy “Orpheus” (1925), which deals with the contrast between humanity and fate, the unique work “Voice” (1930), which has a single character and makes us keenly aware of the loneliness of women, and “Parents Terribles” (1939), which shows that humanity can become inhuman through the conflict between order and disorder. …
