There was also a method of kasane where the fabric was folded into several pieces, sandwiched between two pieces of wood, fastened, and the ends were dyed to create steps and sashes. As can be seen, the basic techniques of pattern dyeing were already in use during the Nara period, and the skills were highly advanced, with many of them having been learned from Tang techniques. ...
