Oriental king snake (Madarahebi)

Japanese: マダラヘビ(斑蛇) - マダラヘビ（英語表記）Oriental king snake

A general term for non-venomous snakes belonging to the Dinodon genus of Colubridae family. Eight species are found in Assam, Myanmar, and northern Indochina, as well as in eastern China, Taiwan, the Korean peninsula, and Japan. They range in length from 0.3 to 1.5 meters, but most are around 1 meter long. In Japan, the endemic white-spotted snake D. orientalis is found in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, the red-spotted snake D. semicarinatus (illustration) is found in the Amami and Okinawa islands, and the Senkaku-kumadara D. nigrofasciatus is found in the Senkaku Islands. In addition, the red-spotted snake D. rufozonatus , which is widely distributed in China, the Korean peninsula, and Taiwan, is found in Tsushima and the Senkaku Islands.
