...Cedars are mainly grown in the upper reaches of the Yoshino River in Yoshino County, Yamato Province (Nara Prefecture). This region, especially Kawakamigo in the hinterland, is blessed with ideal conditions for cedar forestation, and has a long history of afforestation. It is said that Jindai cedar seedlings, which grow on Mt. Miwa and Mt. Kasuga in Yamato, were transplanted during the Bunki era (1501-04), and in the mid-Edo period, cedar species from Yakushima were introduced in an effort to improve the varieties. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Kawakamigo" is listed below.
