〘Noun〙① (Named after the twisted, tangled leaves) A small tree of the cypress family, a horticultural variety of sawara. It has lush branches, linear, soft leaves, and white undersides. Himuro cedar. *Higaki Oshu ( possibly after the 10th century) "How much more can the ayasugi of Senhayafurukasuhi no Miya be a purification offering for the gods?"② Another name for the horticultural variety of cedar, "Enkou cedar (Monkey cedar)."③ A fence made by weaving thin cedar boards like ajiro. [Essays, Anzai Essays (around 1783)]④ A pattern of overlapping zigzags carved into the inside of the barrel of a drum or the body of a shamisen. It is used to prevent the sound from becoming blurred due to differences in sound waves. ※Sakehon: The Prostitute Kinen (1791) 2 “The hem of the hair is also, this one, I was crying. Is it a two-leaf aoi in the middle of the day?”
