A method in which the conductor of a transmission line is composed of two or more conductors with the same potential. Many conductors are arranged at the vertices of a polygon using metal fittings called spacers. The distance between the conductors is, for example, about 40 cm. In transmission lines using three-phase AC, one conductor was used for each phase (single conductor method), but as the transmission voltage increased, the electric field on the conductor's surface became stronger, causing corona discharges that resulted in power loss (corona loss) and corona noise, which became a problem. To solve this problem, a method was used to increase the radius of the conductor to reduce the surface electric field, but this also had its limitations, so the multi-conductor method was invented, in which the conductor of one phase is divided into many parts and arranged slightly apart, which solved the problem.
