Prambanan - Prambanan (English spelling) Prambanan

A village located about 15km east of Yogyakarta, the ancient capital of central Java, Indonesia. In the surrounding area, there are many ruins of Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism that flourished in the 8th and 9th centuries, collectively known as the Prambanan ruins, and the Indonesian government is also planning to make this area the "Prambanan National Historic Park." The central figure of the ruins is Candi Loro Jonggrang (candi means ancient temple or shrine in Indonesian, also known as Candi Prambanan). This magnificent ruin consists of 240 buildings of various sizes, with a 47-meter spire as the main hall, and is one of the most important remains in the history of religious architecture in Southeast Asia.

インドネシア、ジャワ島中部の古都ジョクジャカルタの東約15キロメートルにある集落。付近一帯の地には8～9世紀に栄えたヒンドゥー教と大乗仏教の遺跡が多数現存し、それらを総称して俗にプランバナン遺跡とよび、インドネシア政府もこの地域一帯を「プランバナン国立史跡公園」とする計画を進めている。遺跡群の中心的存在はチャンディ・ロロ・ジョングラン（チャンディとはインドネシア語で古社寺の意。チャンディ・プランバナンともいう）である。47メートルの尖塔(せんとう)を中心主堂とする大小240棟の堂宇からなる壮大な遺跡で、東南アジアの宗教建築史上でも、最重要な遺構の一つである。
