...The sago palm (illustration) is famous for its trunk from which starch is extracted, and the salacca is famous for its fruit. Carnauba wax, famous for its polishing wax, is extracted from the leaves of the South American carnauba palm Copernicia cerifera . Some, like the areca palm, contain alkaloids in their fruits, which are used as stimulants.
