Right heart failure

...At this stage, pressure in the systemic and pulmonary veins begins to rise, and the filtration of body fluids out of the blood vessels increases. At the same time, reabsorption decreases and lymphatic pumping cannot keep up, causing the accumulation of filtrate in the tissue spaces, resulting in the development of a state of heart failure.

A condition in which congestion and edema occur in the pulmonary veins and lung tissue is called left heart failure, while a condition in which congestion occurs in the systemic veins, liver, and spleen, and edema occurs in the face, limbs, and trunk, is called right heart failure. In either condition, cardiac output decreases, and weight gain and reduced urine output are seen.
