Milan Piccolo Theatre (English name)

Japanese: ミラノ･ピッコロ座 - ミラノピッコロざ（英語表記）Piccolo Teatro di Milano

Also simply called the Piccolo Theatre or Piccolo Teatro. Milan Municipal Theatre Company was founded in 1947 by G. Strehler and P. Grassi. It also refers to the theatre itself. Italy has yet to achieve centralization in the areas of politics, culture and industry, so there is no national theatre or national theatre company. Instead, major regional cities run their own theatre companies. Milan's Piccolo Theatre is one such regional theatre company, and was the first to be established after the war. Under the direction of the creative director Strehler, the company has made a remarkable impact on the Italian theatre scene, and its performances have become known even abroad.
