Photographs used for appraisal in the legal, artistic, archaeological, and other fields. Appraisals require sharp insight and judgment based on experience and knowledge, but also require the empirical and objective aspects of scientific appraisal. Currently, forensic photography, which applies the various functions of photography, is widely used as a means to this end, and in both cases, the recording ability of photography is an important given. At crime, accident, disaster, or archaeological excavation sites, it is best to verify and infer the actual circumstances of the incident on-site, but in many cases circumstances do not allow for long-term preservation of the current state.
