〘Noun〙 A type of punishment imposed on commoners during the Edo period. A light punishment that was more severe than a scolding , but was only severely reprimanded and released. Like a scolding, it was often imposed not only on the criminal himself, but also on those who were involved. 〘名〙 江戸時代、庶民に科せられた刑罰の一種。叱(しかり)の重いもので、厳重に叱責するだけで放免する軽刑。叱と同様、犯罪者本人だけでなく、連座した者にもしばしば科せられた。※禁令考‐後集・第三・巻二五・寛保元年(1741)六月「宇右衛門長八儀は急度叱」
