"Tang Nishiki" (by Isako Naruse)

...The characters in The Tale of Genji are used to teach women's education, especially in terms of discipline and etiquette. In addition to Abutsu-ni's Menoto no Bun, there are other works such as The Nurse's Book, Minagatami, and Takema-Sho, and even in the early modern period there is the large volume Kara-nishiki by Naruse Isako (Otakasaka Isako). Many of the so-called bride-to-be versions of The Tale of Genji, which are often passed down to former feudal lords and other families, are likely to have the same purpose.
