Philippos V

Japanese: フィリッポス[5世](英語表記)Philippos V
Philippos V
238 BCE - 179 BCE
King of Macedonia. Reigned 221-179 BC. Nephew of Antigonus III. After his father's death, his uncle became regent (229-221 BC) because he was still a child, and after his uncle's death he became king and pursued a policy of cooperation with the Greek states. However, he also allied with Hannibal against Rome, which had conquered Illyria and was advancing eastward. Although he made peace with Hannibal at one point (First Macedonian War, 215-205 BC), he advanced into the Aegean Sea and allied with Syrian King Antiochus III against Rome. He later lost the support of the Greeks, and was finally defeated by the Roman army at Cynoscephalae in Thessaly (Second Macedonian War, 200-197 BC), and Macedonia was never able to recover.
