A mountainous area in the southeastern part of Shiga Prefecture, northeastern part of Higashiomi City. A forestry village located in the Oike River gorge, a tributary of the Aichi River. There is Ookimikijiso Shrine, which enshrines Prince Koretaka, the first son of Emperor Montoku, who is said to be the ancestor of woodworkers throughout the country, and Kinryu-ji Temple, where the prince lived and was called the Takamatsu Imperial Palace. Even today, many woodworkers visit the village.
