Kimigahata - Kimigahata

A mountainous area in the southeastern part of Shiga Prefecture, northeastern part of Higashiomi City. A forestry village located in the Oike River gorge, a tributary of the Aichi River. There is Ookimikijiso Shrine, which enshrines Prince Koretaka, the first son of Emperor Montoku, who is said to be the ancestor of woodworkers throughout the country, and Kinryu-ji Temple, where the prince lived and was called the Takamatsu Imperial Palace. Even today, many woodworkers visit the village.

滋賀県南東部、東近江市(おうみし)北東部の山間の一地区。愛知(えち)川支流の御池(おいけ)川峡谷に立地する林業の村。全国の木地師(きじし)の祖師といわれる文徳(もんとく)天皇第1皇子惟喬(これたか)親王を祀(まつ)る大皇器地祖(おおきみきじそ)神社と、親王が住み高松御所とよばれた金竜寺がある。現在も木地師の訪れが多い。
