A leader of a popular revolt in the mid-Yi dynasty of Korea. He was a member of the discriminated Baekjeong people. From 1559 to 1562, he organized artisans, small merchants, and farmers in a revolt against the oppression of the central aristocracy and the government. The rebellion was centered in Hwanghae Province, but also spread to Gyeonggi, Pyongan, and Gangwon Provinces. Although the rebellion was put down, it promoted the transfer of power (1565) from the Hunku faction (descendants of meritorious subjects of the Yi dynasty) to the Sirin faction (a budding Confucian school). He is remembered as a righteous thief, and there is a novel about him called Im Kyojeong (1939) written by Hong Myung-hee. [Yazawa Kosuke]

朝鮮，李朝中期の民衆反乱の指導者。被差別民である白丁の出身。1559‐62年，中央貴族や政府の圧制に抗し，手工業者，小商人，農民を組織して反乱を起こした。反乱地域は黄海道を中心とし京畿･平安･江原各道にも及んだ。反乱は鎮圧されたが，勲旧派(李朝功臣の末裔)から士林派(新進の儒学派)への政権移行(1565)を促進した。義賊として語りつがれ，小説に洪命熹作《林巨正》(1939)がある。【矢沢康祐】
