Bin-bir-kilise (English spelling)

Japanese: ビン･ビル･キリッセ（英語表記）Bin‐bir‐kilise

This Byzantine city ruin is located about 70km southeast of Konya in central Turkey, and is known for the remains of a group of monasteries. The monasteries and churches, which had been abandoned for a long time, were revealed in a survey report by Ms. G. Bell and W. Ramsay in the early 20th century. The name of the city means "1001 churches," and comes from the large number of churches that once stood here. More than 30 churches have been identified, some of which are in good condition. There are many unknowns about the condition and dates of the city and monasteries, and the churches are thought to have been built in two periods, the 5th to 6th centuries and the 9th to 12th centuries.

トルコ中央部コニヤの南東約70kmにあるビザンティンの都市遺跡で，修道院群の遺構で知られる。長い間放棄されていた修道院および教会堂は，20世紀初頭にG.ベル女史とW.ラムゼーによる調査報告で明らかにされた。地名は〈1001の教会堂〉の意で，ここに非常に多くの教会堂があったことに由来する。30以上の教会堂が認められ，幾つかのものは保存状態がよい。都市および修道院の状況や年代にも不明な点が多く，諸教会堂は5～6世紀と9～12世紀の2期に建造されたと考えられている。
