Karakami Festival - Karakami Festival

During the Heian period, this festival was held at the southern Sono Shrine and the northern Karakami Shrine, both of which were enshrined in the Imperial Household Ministry. It is also called the Sonarabi Karakami Festival. It was held on the day of the ox after the Kasuga Festival in February and on the day of the ox before the Niiname Festival in November. The ritual begins with the Shinto priest making offerings, the Kanbe erecting a sacred tree, lighting a garden fire, and leading the horses around. The Mikannagi recite a prayer before the Garden God and then the Korean God, and the Onmiko perform singing and dancing. The Yamato Dance is then performed before the Garden God and a formal ceremony is held. The ritual ends with a Kagura dance being dedicated to the two gods. The ritual was abolished after the Kamakura period.

平安時代、宮内省に祀(まつ)られていた、南の園神社(そのかみのやしろ)1座および北の韓神社(からかみのやしろ)2座の祭り。園并(そのならび)韓ノ神祭ともいう。2月の春日祭(かすがまつり)のあとの丑(うし)の日と11月新嘗祭(にいなめさい)の前の丑の日に行われた。祭儀は、神祇(じんぎ)官が神饌(しんせん)を供え、神部(かんべ)が賢木(さかき)を立て、庭火を焚(た)き、御馬の引き回しのあと、まず園神、ついで韓神の神前で御巫(みかんなぎ)の祝詞(のりと)、御神子(おんみこ)の歌舞などを奉仕し、さらに園神へ倭舞(やまとまい)を奏して直会(なおらい)を行う。その後、両神前に神楽(かぐら)を奉納して終わる。鎌倉以降廃絶した。
