Zinc Minerals

Japanese: 亜鉛鉱物 - あえんこうぶつ
Zinc Minerals
A mineral whose main product is zinc Zn. The most important source of zinc is sphalerite (Zn,Fe,Mn,Cd)S (Zn content up to 67%), which occurs in various deposits. Well-known deposits include the Kamioka and Nakatatsu contact metasomatic deposits, the Toyoha and Hosokura vein deposits, and the Kosaka and Hanaoka black ore deposits. Wurtzite ZnS is a heteromorph. In addition to sphalerite, the oxide zone of zinc deposits also produces smithsonite ZnCO 3 (particularly common in deposits with calcite), hemimorphite Zn 4 (Si 2 O 7 )(OH) 2 ・H 2 O, and other minerals that are sometimes used as ores.
