A lake in the northern part of the state of Michoacan in central-western Mexico. It has an area of 260 km2 and an elevation of 2,045 m. It is located in the southern part of the Anahuac Plateau, about 50 km west of the state capital, Morelia. It is a beautiful lake that blends in well with the surrounding mountainous areas, and many people visit for sightseeing and recreation. The islands of Hanitzo and Jaracroa on the lake are home to the Tarasco people. A unique net fishing method using canoes is practiced here, making it a tourist attraction.
