A private pension designed to provide security after retirement. Assets are invested over the long term, and the insured receives the assets in the form of an annuity for a certain period or for life. They are broadly divided into savings-type and insurance-type private pensions. Savings-type private pensions invest the insured's premiums and convert the interest and dividends into annuities. There are two types: principal-preserving and principal-withdrawal. They are handled by banks, trust banks, and securities companies. Insurance-type private pensions pay pensions using insurance premiums and dividends as the source of funds. Basically, there are lifetime annuities that are paid for life, and fixed annuities that can be received for a certain period. They can be combined with other medical insurance and other special provisions. However, depending on the type, in the event of early death, the pension received may be less than the premiums paid. They are handled by life insurance companies and non-life insurance companies. Both savings-type and insurance-type private pensions are available in fixed amounts, where the annual amount received is fixed from the time of enrollment, and increasing amounts, where the amount increases at a certain rate every year or every few years. There are two ways to pay pension premiums: savings-type and lump-sum payment-type.

老後の保障を目的とした私的年金。長期にわたって資産を運用し，その資産を一定期間あるいは終身にわたって年金方式で受け取る。貯蓄型個人年金と保険型個人年金に大別される。貯蓄型は加入者の掛け金を運用し，利息や配当金を年金にする保険で，元本温存型と元本取り崩し型がある。銀行，信託銀行，証券会社などが扱っている。保険型は，保険料と配当金を原資として年金を支給する。基本的に一生涯支給される終身年金と一定期間だけ受け取れる確定年金があり，ほかの医療保障保険などを特約で組み合わせることができる。ただし種類により，早期に死亡した場合，払い込み保険料より少ない年金しか受け取れないことがある。生命保険会社，損害保険会社などが扱っている。貯蓄型，保険型とも毎年の受け取り額が加入時から定まっている定額型と毎年か数年ごとに一定の割合で増加する逓増型がある。年金保険料の支払い方法は積立型と一括払込型がある。
