Homalomena (English spelling)

Japanese: ホマロメナ（英語表記）Homalomena

A plant of the Araceae family, with about 50 species distributed from eastern India to New Guinea, and several species isolated in the tropical regions of South America (illustration). The entire plant has a fragrance similar to that of calamus. There are many species and they are morphologically diverse, ranging from small ones of about 3 cm in height to large ones over 2 m. Most stems are upright, but some run horizontally across the ground. The leaves also vary from narrowly lanceolate to broadly ovate with a heart-shaped base. The flowers are dioecious, have no perianth, and form spadix. The inflorescence has no sterile parts, with female flowers at the bottom and male flowers at the top, and are covered by persistent spadix.

インド東部からニューギニアにかけて約50種と，南アメリカ熱帯域に数種が隔離的に分布するサトイモ科の植物（イラスト）。全草にショウブに似た芳香がある。種数が多く，形態的には多様で，高さ3cmほどの小さなものから2mをこえる大きなものまであり，茎は直立するものが多いが，地表を横走するものもある。葉も，狭披針形のものから広卵形で基部が心形となるものまである。花は，雌雄異花で花被はなく，肉穂花序をつくる。花序には不稔の部分はなく，下部に雌花が，上部に雄花がつき，宿存する仏焰苞（ぶつえんほう）につつまれる。
