…Before the Ritsuryo system, the Kurumamochi clan, a branch of the Kamitsukenu clan, served in the ceremonies of the emperor's vehicles, the Kasatori clan in the raising of the lid during imperial journeys, and the Hioki clan in the provision of lamps and candles. The Kamo clan was the governor of Kadono in Yamashiro, and the Shimogamo Genealogy records that Kujiyoshi served in the Tonoryo during the reigns of Jomei and Kogyoku, and that many served in the Mizube, the Mizunobu branch of the Sui-no-tsukasa. The Kamo clan provided tribute in the form of firewood and charcoal from the mountains of Kadono, and ice from the icehouse, and had members of the clan attend the emperor as attendants, the predecessors of the Tonobe and Mizube. …

...The crow also served as an emissary when the local Yamato lords Eukashi and Otoukashi were subjugated. The Yatagarasu is said to be the ancestor of Kamo no Agata-nushi of Yamashiro (Nihon Shoki, Kogo Shūi). He inherited the position of shudono, and among his duties were 'attending the carriage' (Engishiki) and 'being the 'lightsetter' at the Daijōsai (Great Blessings) (Kitayama Shō), which is thought to show a correspondence between myth and ritual....
