...The former was called "mori" and the latter was originally called "bukkake," but around the time of the Kansei era, this was shortened to "kake." "Kake" topped with various ingredients was called "tanemono," also known as "kayaku soba," and by the end of the Edo period, varieties such as "hanamaki," "arare," "tempura," "tamago (egg) toji," "kamo nanban," and "okame" were on sale. "Hanamaki" was topped with roasted nori seaweed, and "arare" was topped with shellfish, and "nanban" in "kamo nanban" was green onion.
